Chrysler’s first foray into the hybrid market affects its two full-size SUV twins, the Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango. Using a two-mode hybrid system co-developed with GM, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, the hybrid versions of both SUVs purportedly yield 40 percent better city mileage than their gasoline counterparts. The Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon hybrids, which use the same two-mode technology, are the Aspen’s main competitors.

The Chrysler Voyager was a minivan marketed by Chrysler LLC in the United States from 2000-2007 exclusively as a short wheelbase (SWB) model, replacing the Plymouth Voyager after Chrysler dropped the Plymouth brand — and offered only in Generation III and IV of Chrysler’s five generation minivan series.

Though no longer available in North America, Chrysler continues to use Chrysler Voyager nameplate in global markets, e.g., Mexico, Europe.

Together with its nameplate variants, the Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Plymouth Voyager and Volkswagen Routan, the Chrysler minivans have ranked as the 13th bestselling automotive nameplate worldwide, with over 12 million sold.[1]

The European Chrysler Voyager was first released in 1988, nearly identical to its American counterpart, the Plymouth Voyager; the only visual differences between the two were the head/taillights and grille. Besides of the slightly different appearance European Voyagers were sold with different engines, including diesel engines, which are popular in Europe; the trim was also different.

The current European Voyagers are very similar to the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country cars. Although produced in Ontario now, they are still available with diesel engines. They are sold as Chrysler Grand Voyagers in Europe, since 2008 only in the long wheelbase version (as in North America).

For 2000, the Chrysler Voyager was identical to the Plymouth Voyager except that the 3.8 L V6 was not available for the Chrysler Voyager. Base models of the Voyager were offered in most states with either a 2.4 L four-cylinder or a 3.0 L Mitsubishi V6 engine, except in California and several northeastern states, where the Mitsubishi V6 didn’t meet emissions standards. In those locales, the 3.3 L engine was offered instead.

Chrysler has manufactured and marketed the Chrysler Town and Country minivan worldwide since its 1990 introduction. Other rebadged variants have included the now discontinued Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Voyager as well as the Dodge Caravan and Volkswagen Routan.

The Chrysler PT Cruiser was launched by Chrysler as a retro-styled wagon in 2000 and as a convertible in 2005. Originally conceived as a Plymouth model, the PT Cruiser received the Chrysler nameplate on introduction — in anticipation of the 2001 discontinuation of the Plymouth brand.

The convertible ceased production December 21, 2007, with the last 2007 convertibles were marketed as 2008 models. Chrysler announced the discontinuation of the PT Cruiser, altogether, on January 12, 2009.

The name PT Cruiser includes the initialism PT, standing for Personal Transportation and designating the car’s platform as well as production code. The name also recalls the 1930s line of Plymouth Trucks known by the “PT” moniker.

The PT Cruiser is a front-wheel drive 5-passenger vehicle, classified as a truck in the U.S. by the NHTSA for CAFE fuel economy calculations but as a car by most other metrics. Chrysler specifically designed the PT Cruiser to fit the NHTSA criteria for a light truck in order to bring the average fuel efficiency of the company’s light truck fleet into compliance with CAFE standards.[1] A turbocharged GT model was introduced for the 2003 model year. A convertible was introduced for the 2005 model year.

The PT Cruiser is manufactured at Toluca Car Assembly in Toluca, Mexico. On March 8, 2006, DaimlerChrysler announced that it had built 1,000,000 PT Cruisers at the Toluca plant since February 14, 2000. The PT Cruiser was also assembled in Graz, Austria, for global markets (outside North America) in 2002, using the production code PG. European PT Cruisers built in 2001 or from 2003 onwards are built in Mexico under the PT production code. The American version features a 2.4 L four-cylinder gasoline engine. In addition to this standard model, a 2.2 L four-cylinder diesel engine built by Mercedes Benz is also available in Europe, Asia, and South Africa. A 2 liter engine (D4RE) was available outside the U.S. It produces 140 hp (100 kW) SAE at 6500 rpm with 130 ft·lbf (180 N·m) of torque at 4800 rpm.

When initially introduced, demand for the car was, in many cases, higher than dealer supply, seeing customers put on waiting lists. Anticipation of the car was high, making for a debut that was among the most successful in company history.[citation needed]

The Chrysler Pacifica is a mid-size crossover, introduced by Chrysler and marketed from model years 2004 to 2008.

Sharing its platform with the Chrysler minivans, the CUV was inspired by the 1999 Chrysler Pacifica and 2000 Chrysler Citadel concept cars.

Chrysler marketed the Pacifica as a “sports-tourer,” [1] building the vehicle at the Windsor Assembly Plant, alongside the long-wheelbase minivans from early 2003 [2] through November, 2007.

Notably, the Pacifica was the first jointly engineered product of the 1998 Chrysler-DaimlerBenz “merger of equals.” [3] Chrysler developed the vehicle in 30 months at a cost below $1 billion. [2]

Initially, the vehicle came in just one trim level, dubbed Pacifica.

The Chrysler New Yorker was a premium automobile built by the Chrysler Corporation from 1939 to 1996, serving for several years as the brand’s flagship model. A model named the “New York Special” first appeared in the 1930s. Until its discontinuation in 1996, the New Yorker had made its mark as the longest running American car nameplate.

The New Yorker name helped define the Chrysler brand as a maker of upscale models priced and equipped above mainstream brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge/Plymouth, but below full luxury brands like Cadillac and Packard. During the New Yorker’s tenure, it competed against models from Buick, Oldsmobile, Lincoln, and Mercury.

The New Yorker Special luxury package was originally introduced as an option for the 1939 Chrysler Imperial. The package’s popularity caused the car to become its own model for 1939, based on the same platform as the Chrysler Windsor. It was available as a 2-door coupe or sedan with a 323 CID Straight-8 and a generous amount of comfort and space to the passengers.

Due to the tensions of war in Europe, and the later rubber and steel war rations of 1941, Chrysler ceased production of its cars to civilians. However, a limited number of 1940 models did make it to the showroom floor. Chrysler would produce and experiment with engines for tanks and aircraft during World War II. One post-war application of this would lead to the creation of the first generation Hemi of the 1950s.

Unlike most car companies, Chrysler was having trouble in restarting its business operations by starting 2 years late. This made full blown production somewhat troublesome. 1947 saw a redesign in tires, trim, and instrument panel, and 1949 was just a renamed ’47 save the convertible option and chrome trim.

The Neon was a compact front wheel drive car introduced in January 1994 for the 1995 model year by Chrysler Corporation’s Dodge and Plymouth brands. It was branded as a Chrysler model in Japan, European and Australian (where it was the first car to be sold as a Chrysler since 1981) export markets, as well as briefly in Mexico and Canada. It replaced the Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance & Duster models and the Dodge & Plymouth Colt. The Neon was offered in multiple versions and configurations over its production life, which ended on September 23, 2006.

The first generation Neon was introduced in January 1994 and manufactured until 1999. It was available as a four-door sedan or two-door coupe. It was powered by either a 132 hp (98 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 129 ft (39 m)·lbf (175 N•m) @ 5000 rpm SAE 2.0 L SOHC or a 150 hp (112 kW) @ 6500 rpm (R/T DOHC model) and 133 ft·lbf (180 N•m) @ 5600 rpm SAE 2.0 L DOHC four-cylinder engine. The first generation Neon was available with a three-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission and was sold as a Dodge and Plymouth in the United States and Canada, and as the Chrysler Neon outside North America.

The Neon had more standard power when compared to competitor cars of similar vintage – the Civic DX at 102 hp (76 kW), the Civic EX at 125 hp (93 kW), the Sentra at 115hp, the Escort ZX2 at 130 hp (97 kW), the Corolla at 115 hp (86 kW), etc.

At the Neon’s release, then chairman of Chrysler Corporation Robert Lutz said, “There’s an old saying in Detroit: ‘Good, fast, or cheap. Pick any two.’ We refuse to accept that.”

First-generation Neons were competitive in SCCA Solo autocross.[1] Available with both the SOHC (sedan) or DOHC (coupe) the ACR was competitive in its class, and featured four-wheel disc brakes, Arvin non-adjustable struts for 1995–1996 models and Koni adjustable dampers for 1997–1999 models, thicker anti-sway bars, fast-ratio steering, heavy-duty front wheel hubs, and a five-speed manual transmission with a numerically higher .81 fifth gear and final drive ratio of 3.94 for quicker acceleration. 1995 through 1997 models featured adjustable camber. The computer-controlled speed limiter was removed from 1995 ACR models, and raised from the standard 190 km/h (118 mph) to 210 km/h (130 mph) for subsequent years. The ACR offers no badging to distinguish it from other Neon models; the only visible differences are a bumper with fog light holes, but no fog lights and a lack of side mouldings. In 1995, the ACR was only offered to SCCA members, but in subsequent years it was available to the general public. The name “ACR” was initially the internal ordering code for the “Competition Package”, as it was termed in dealer materials; however, as knowledge of the model spread, the ACR name stuck, and backronyms such as “American Club Racer” were given to it by fans.[who?]

The R/T model (Road/Track) debuted in the 1998 model year. Offered only with a 5 speed DOHC configuration, the R/T featured many of the ACR’s mechanical upgrades including the numerically higher ratio 3.94 5 speed manual transmission, with the .81 5th gear. The R/T, however, was intended for the street, with more comfort and convenience features standard or available, and specialized parts like the adjustable dampers removed, although the dampers found on R/T models were slightly stiffer, offering an advantage over standard model Neons. R/Ts featured optional stripes over the top of the car, silver “R/T” badging on the front door panels and the right side of the trunk deck lid, and a functional wing. The “Stripe Delete” option was available from the factory, but with no credit to the Neons MSRP. All striped R/Ts (Black,Red,Blue) had silver colored stripes, with the exception of the White R/Ts, which came with dark blue colored stripes.

The Chrysler LHS is a full-size, front wheel drive car based on the Chrysler LH platform. It was Chrysler’s flagship model from 1994 to 2001.

Having been praised throughout its production run as offering a blend of high end luxury and features, along with solid performance, the LHS was said[by whom?] to rival others costing thousands more. The first generation LHS was said[by whom?] to have an overall package (of both luxury and performance) very reminiscent of a higher end European car. Ironically, many automotive journalists stated that Chrysler’s flagship car could be easily mistaken for something German. This was just a few years before Chrysler Corporation’s partnering with Daimler-Benz.

Originally released in 1994, a year after the Chrysler Concorde, Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Vision were released, the LH 207 (Chrysler LHS and New Yorker) used a version of the LH platform with a five-inch (127 mm) longer body, and took the place of the Imperial as the largest and most luxurious car in Chrysler’s range and viewed as its “flagship” model. While the wheelbase of all the LH models remained the same, the 5 inch longer body allowed the engineers to push the rear seat even farther back. This gave the LHS an almost limo-like rear seat room, analogous to the various stretched “L” models from BMW or Mercedes. A very similar New Yorker model was also built as a replacement for the New Yorker Fifth Avenue and New Yorker Salon. From 1994 on, all three Chrysler LH models used the mid-level “Touring” suspension. An even stiffer “Performance” setting was an available option on the Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Vision.

The Concorde, which differed substantially more, was seen as the base full-size Chrysler. The six-passenger LHS was differentiated from its counter part chrome trimmed sibling, the Chrysler New Yorker, by a floor console and shifter, an upgraded interior and a sportier image. The New Yorker was dropped in favor of a six-passenger option on the 1997 LHS. The LHS received a minor face change in 1995 where the Pentastar was changed in favor of Chrysler’s current medallion logo.

Being the top-of-the-line Chrysler, many features came standard on the LHS, many were only options on its siblings. These included a 3.5 L EGJ 24-valve 214 hp (160 kW) V6 engine, body-colored grille, side mirrors and trim, traction control, aluminum wheels, integrated fog lights, and 8-way power adjustable front seats. Like the New Yorker, leather seats were an option, a velour-like cloth coming standard. The LHS’s leather mimicked the gathered style of its cloth seats, and projected a more expensive look than the New Yorker’s more traditionally styled leather.

It should be noted that the first generation LHS was praised by motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson, who is well known for criticizing American automobiles but described the LHS as “by global standards, right up there with the best.”[1]

The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, sports car marketed by Chrysler as both coupé and roadster and built for Chrysler by Karmann of Germany.

The two-seater arrived in 2001 as a concept car designed by Eric Stoddard[3] with further refinement by Andrew Dyson[4] before production in 2003.

The Crossfire’s fastback roof and broad rear fenders made for a rear end design that prompted automotive journalists to describe the new car’s resemblance to American Motor’s 1965-1967 Marlin. For example, Rob Rothwell wrote …when I first espied the rear lines of the Chrysler Crossfire I was instantly transported back to 1965 and my favorite car of that year, the Rambler Marlin.[5]

The name Crossfire refers to the two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides — crossing each other midway through the door panel. Conceived during the period of Chrysler’s ownership by Daimler-Benz, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.

The Crossfire shares 59%[citation needed] of its components with other Mercedes models. The chassis is a combination of a modified C-class engine compartment, pre-2003 SLK platform, S-Class rear linkages and new stampings for the side rails and rear.
