After a redesign last year, the Audi TT receives minor changes for 2009. All trim levels get standard hill-hold assist, steering-wheel-mounted controls, an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio. The 2.0 T models are now available with Quattro all-wheel drive. For the convertible TT, a manual top is now standard on the 2.0 T; a power top is optional. Lastly, a high-performance TTS coupe and roadster will debut midway through the model year.

Coming off of a full redesign last year, the latest-generation Audi TT is now sleeker and more aggressive-looking, and in some ways defies classification. The TT has the low-slung look and feel of a sports car, but its dynamic personality is closer to that of a luxury sport coupe. And although the coupe has a pair of seats in the back, they’re only suitable for kids, packages or perhaps anorexic D-listers. Still, the 2009 Audi TT has a distinctive blend of good looks, able performance and impeccable build quality.

Besides styling, last year’s redesign ushered in a more sophisticated chassis as well as a more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This year, the Audi TT is mostly unchanged. Notably, all 2.0 T models with the S Tronic automatic transmission are now available with Quattro all-wheel drive. However, later in the year, Audi will introduce the TTS coupe and roadster, which will use a souped-up version of the inline-4 turbo that will supposedly be good for an impressive 272 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 2009 TTS will also be lighter than the other TT models. With the added power and reduced weight, Audi estimates the TTS will go from zero to 60 mph somewhere between 5.2 and 5.4 seconds.

However, shoppers interested mainly in performance will find the TT’s price off-putting; cars like the Ford Mustang GT, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru Impreza WRX STI all offer better bang-buck ratios. Meanwhile, for more sophisticated ride and handling, the BMW 135i or Z4, as well as Porsche’s Boxster or Cayman, can outdo the regular TT models and should be tough competition for the forthcoming TTS. Still, for someone wanting a broad combination of performance, sophistication and style, the TT comes recommended.

For 2009, Audi debuts the diesel-powered Q7 TDI, which will be available later in the year. Other Q7 models are unchanged, save for some feature and trim level updates: The base 3.6 gets a standard premium sound system, a trip computer, telescoping sun visors and satellite radio. Also, Audi’s MMI control interface is now optional on that model. Standard front parking sensors are dropped from the midlevel Premium trim. Q7s with the 4.2-liter V8 engine receive a cleaner ULEV tailpipe emission rating and see a slight improvement in fuel economy. The Prestige trim on the 4.2 model gets voice recognition and a blind-spot warning system.

Now in its third year, the Audi Q7 offers everything you’d expect from a German-engineered large crossover SUV: high-end accoutrements, sporty handling and the ability to transport kids and cargo with relative ease. This distant relative of the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne is more than a foot longer than the others, and as such, offers more space to accommodate cargo and a third row of seats. With this added size, the Audi is even heavier than its brethren, and this has taken its toll on both acceleration and fuel consumption in the past.

Audi has come up with a partial answer to these dilemmas for 2009 with a new TDI model, which is scheduled to arrive in dealerships shortly after its gasoline-powered counterparts. The 3.0-liter clean-burning diesel engine is 50-state legal. It’s rated at a modest 221 horsepower, but as is typical of diesel power plants, makes a healthy amount of torque — 369 pound-feet. The advantages of the TDI Q7 include not only improved overall fuel economy, but increased range, which in turn reduces the number of trips to the pump.

Still, the 2009 Audi Q7 has faults. In addition to mediocre acceleration and fuel economy in models with gasoline engines, the Q7 suffers from a rather cramped third-row seat. Saving graces include a well-crafted interior, agile handling and a collection of luxury features that make the Q7 ideal for daily family use and long-distance drives. But we also suggest taking a look at the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which offers more room and more than ample performance. Also, the Cadillac Escalade, while not a unibody crossover, provides class-leading passenger and cargo space. A new hybrid version of that SUV, which boasts 20-mpg-combined fuel economy, is a good competitor to the Q7 TDI.

Audi’s entry-level sedan and companion Avant wagon get a complete redesign for 2009. The new A4 is longer and wider, resulting in more interior room and cargo space. The optional Drive Select system allows the driver to customize steering, suspension and transmission settings, and a rearrangement of the front axle has yielded a less-nose-heavy weight distribution. New technology features include direct injection for both engines, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot warning system and a revised version of Audi’s MMI systems controller. Despite being a longtime top seller in Europe, the Audi A4 has historically trailed a distant 3rd behind those other German automakers’ compact luxury sedans in the North American market. The folks in Ingolstadt are hoping to change all that with the newly redesigned 2009 Audi A4.

The new A4 sedan is nearly 5 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the previous model, which yields more headroom, more shoulder room and an additional 1.4 inches of rear knee room, as well as class-leading trunk space. Also new on the A4 this year is a pair of direct-injection engines — the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and an available 3.2-liter V6 (sedan only). The 2009 A4 additionally offers a plethora of techno-gadgets, including radar-based adaptive cruise control, a new park distance control system and revised controls for Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) system.

Driving enthusiasts will appreciate that the drivetrain’s AWD layout has been adjusted to improve weight balance for better handling. In addition, the optional Drive Select system permits the driver to adjust ride compliance, steering effort and shift response — there are three different preset modes as well as a personalized mode where you can mix and match settings.

Of course, the 2009 Audi A4 faces stiff competition, such as the more engaging BMW 3 Series, the affordably priced Infiniti G37 and the solidly built Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Since the convertible A4 is a carry-over from the previous generation, we’d definitely hold out for the upcoming A4-based A5 and S5 convertibles. But for those in search of a good-looking and sharp-handling compact luxury sedan or wagon with AWD and the latest technology features, the 2009 Audi A4 is a solid choice.

The Audi TT is a sports car manufactured by Audi since 1998 in Gyor, Hungary, now in its second generation — and available as a 2+2 coupé or two-seater roadster.

The development of the Audi TT began in September 1994 at the Audi Design Center in California. The TT was first shown as a concept car at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show. The design is credited to J Mays and Freeman Thomas with Martin Smith contributing to the award winning interior design. A previously unused laser welding adaptation that enabled seamless design features on the first-generation TT, also delayed its introduction.

Audi did not initially include an automatic transmission option for the TT. A DSG (S-Tronic) became available, the first for a production car, in 2003.

The TT is named for the successful racing tradition of NSU in the British Isle of Man TT motorcycle race. NSU began competing in the TT in 1911 and later merged into the company now known as Audi.[1] The Audi TT also follows the NSU 1000TT, 1200TT and TTS cars of the 1960s in being named for the race.

The Audi TT Roadster was presented in Detroit in 1999 under the name Audi TTS. After one year the name was changed to Audi TT Roadster.[citation needed]

The Audi S8 quattro is a high-performance version of the German automaker Audi’s flagship vehicle, the Audi A8. It is a large luxury executive car, and was introduced in 1998, four years after the A8′s introduction to the European market. It is only available as a four-door saloon/sedan.

The S8, like all Audi “S” models, is fitted as standard with Audi’s trademark quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, with the S8 using the Torsen-based permanent 4WD.

Its main market competitor could include the Mercedes-Benz S63/65 AMG.

In 1998, Audi introduced the Audi S8 4.2 quattro (Typ 4D) into the European market, a high-performance version of the Audi A8 in the vein of Mercedes-Benz AMG models, sharing the A8′s all aluminium monocoque “Audi Space Frame”, and Volkswagen Group D2 platform.

Production of this original S8 ended in 2003, shortly before the introduction of the current D3-platform A8.

The D2 S8 was also featured in the 1998 film Ronin.

The Audi S6 is a high-performance version of the Audi A6, an executive car produced by German automaker Audi.[1] It went on sale in 1994, shortly after the “A6″ designation was introduced, replacing the “100″ nameplate. The original S6 was largely the same car as the outgoing, original Audi S4, with the only visible differences being new body-cladding and badging.

The S6, like all Audi “S” models, is fitted as standard with Audi’s trademark quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, the S6 using the Torsen-based permanent 4WD.

Audi was restructuring their model lineup in early and mid-1990s, and in 1995 began selling the fifth generation (C4) Audi 100 model re-badged as the Audi A6. Wanting to keep a sports-saloon in their lineup, the company made small revisions to what was previously known as the Audi S4, renaming it the Audi S6; the S4 name would eventually be re-used for a completely different model derived from Audi’s smaller Volkswagen Group B platform-based Audi A4. As this was the first S6 model from Audi, it is commonly referred to as the Ur-S6, derived from the German augmentive, Ursprünglich (meaning: original).

It was available as both a saloon/sedan, and an “Avant” (estate/wagon) to European and United States customers, but only as a saloon in Canada, Asia and Australia.

For 1995, the S6 was powered by a 2,228 cc (136.0 cu in) turbocharged inline five-cylinder petrol engine, producing 169 kW (230 PS; 227 bhp) at 5900 rpm and 326 N·m (240.4 ft·lbf) at around 1950 rpm. The powerful engine gave the S6 surprisingly good performance, it had a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph) and went from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.1 seconds; 160 km/h (99 mph) was reached in 17.5 seconds.
